South Port has a new chief executive.
Derek Nind will take over as CEO on July 27, replacing Nigel Gear who steps down at the end of May after 8.5 years leading the Bluff port company.
Nind brings deep port experience to the role. He previously served as chief executive of CentrePort and held executive positions at Lyttelton Port Company. He was also managing director of 360 Logistics Group and until recently served as a South Port director.
The Southland-born executive has stepped down from the board to take the CEO role.
"From having spent time early in my career working on the Port, and being a Southlander, it has been a privilege to serve on the Board," Nind said. "I am excited to now have the opportunity to lead the company as CEO and I am looking forward to working with the whole South Port team in this new capacity."
Gear completes more than three decades with South Port, including his CEO tenure where the company strengthened operations and broadened its trade base. Geoff Finnerty will serve as interim CEO until Nind starts.
Chair Philip Cory-Wright will also retire at October's annual meeting after 16 years, including three as chair. Nicola Greer will replace him.
South Port is tracking toward a record full-year result. The company delivered record interim performance for the six months ended December 31, supported by higher cargo volumes and strong container activity. Trading has remained strong into the second half despite external uncertainties including geopolitical developments.
