Preparations are going well for the Southland Home Show this weekend, with exhibitor space sold out at ILT Stadium Southland.

Held every year for the past 28 years, organiser George Owen said each event they made sure it had a slightly different focus to keep people interested.

Good news about the region’s economy gave people a positive attitude, and they were more willing to spend money and support local industries.

“Invercargill and Southland is the top performer economically in the country at the moment so that makes life so much easier for everyone.”

Statistics show 96% of people who come to the Home Show own their own home, as the premier event for those looking at building or renovating.

With everything on offer from carpet to blinds, to elaborate coffee machines and spa pools,  George can proudly say he was the only Home Show in the country that has never missed a year.

“We held it on election day (2020) because we knew they wouldn’t close the country on that day,” he joked.

George saw an opening for a Home Show in Southland back in 1996, after being involved in every other home show around the country for 20 years.  This included being one of the first exhibitors in Waikato in 1983.

“Home shows all have their own flavour,” he said.

Everyone is welcome through the Home Show over Saturday and Sunday, with exhibitors offering two days of specials, so it was a opportunity to negotiate great deals on everything for your home. Entry is $10 for adults, children free and runs 10-5 Saturday and Sunday.
