Chris Ramsay has been appointed to a new role as Community Advisor at the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT). This appointment comes as part of a ministerial directive requiring each Te Pūkenga business division to have a dedicated local advisor.
The Community Advisor position is focused on ensuring local input and insights are considered in SIT’s financial and operational planning. SIT Operations Lead, Daryl Haggerty, said the role is designed to support and guide with a regional perspective, and does not include decision-making authority.
“Chris brings a wealth of experience to the role; as the Chief Executive of the Invercargill Licensing Trust and someone who is deeply connected across the Southland region, his local insight and networks will be of great value to us. I am looking forward to working alongside him in his new capacity,” Mr Haggerty said.
Mr Ramsay has previously served on SIT’s Hospitality Advisory Group and more recently the Business Consultative Group. His long-standing involvement has provided him with an in-depth understanding of SIT’s impact in the region.
“I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing firsthand the passion that exists across all areas of SIT,” said Mr Ramsay. “I’m really looking forward to supporting Daryl and his team on returning SIT to full autonomy. The success of SIT, particularly since the Zero Fees initiative, has been a cornerstone of driving vibrancy within our community.”
Ramsay’s appointment aims to strengthen SIT’s local connections and ensure the institute continues to reflect the needs and aspirations of the Southland community. He begins in the role this month.
