Police in Invercargill responded to an armed robbery of a ACM transit van outside ANZ Bank on the corner of Kelvin and Spey Streets.
A cash in transit van was robbed shortly after 9:10am today in the area of Kelvin and Spey streets.
A witness who saw the robbery unfold said a black Subaru Legacy pulled up outside the bank. Three men dressed in black from head to toe with balaclavas on and guns jumped out of the car and attacked a female guard pushing her to the ground, grabbed money bags and then the car sped off down Kelvin Street.
Police are looking for a silver Subaru station wagon with vehicle registration GSP913, which was stolen from an Invercargill address yesterday evening.
Anyone who sees this vehicle is asked to call 111, and not to approach, as the occupants are believed to be armed.
An ambulance is at the scene, no one was seriously injured.
An ANZ spokesman said the bank would be closed for the rest of the day and possibly tomorrow.
