Business leaders, managers and owners are talking openly about being overwhelmed by anxiety, fears, frustrations, avoidance behaviours, debilitating stress, sleeplessness and bad behaviour from alcohol and drug consumption to hitting out at those who matter most.
Chamber CEO Sheree Carey said “Reducing the pressure we operate under is about changing our behaviours, which is why the Southland Business Chamber is launching the First Steps NZ programme in Southland”
First Steps NZ is a space to find a range of resources, video content, podcasts, and tools to help you make sense of challenging situations, reduce pressure, and make meaningful change toward a fulfilling and balanced life. In additional to self-directed resources, First Steps also provides access to confidential support from approved professional wellbeing providers.
“The Southland Business Chamber has been actively championing workplace wellbeing within the Southland business community recognising that the past two years have been extremely challenging for many business owners, in 2020 we galvanised this work with a series of monthly wellbeing webinars designed to boost members’ physical and mental wellbeing but expanding our offering to this self-directed platform is a game changer, the resources are valued, relevant, and in daily demand“ Carey said.
Since the Auckland Business Chamber and EMA launched First Steps NZ in Auckland a little over six months ago, over 75,000 self-help resources have been downloaded, 71,000 people have visited the site, 1,300 emergency helpline calls managed, 550 funding applications for specialist help approved, and 394 wellbeing professionals and 59 organisations brought on board.
“There’s still a lot of difficulties and unknowns so the Chamber needs to be doing everything we can to support those members in need. We believe that this self-directed platform will take you from being under pressure to being under control” Carey said.
Local wellbeing professionals are encouraged to share content on the First Steps NZ website, and apply to be an approved professional wellbeing provider to support business owners, managers and employees locally and nationwide.
