The countdown is officially on to the return of the Burt Munro Challenge 8 – 12 February 2023, with registrations and ticket sales for the largest rally in the southern hemisphere now on sale!

Challenge organisers are looking forward to once again welcoming new and returning riders, spectators and support crews to Southland for this iconic event, after this year’s event was cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

Kicking off on Wednesday 8 February with the Southland Honda Track Day, the Challenge includes six other events across five days, including the Star Insurance NZ Hill Climb Champs, Indian Motorcycle Twilight Drag Racing, E Hayes & Sons Teretonga Sprint Races, Super Seller Shelley Speedway, Honda Invercargill Street Races and of course the signature Indian Motorcycle Beach Racing & NZ Champs.

Burt Munro Challenge Committee Chair Craig Hyde said the organisers were “pumped” and ready for another exciting rally after having had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year, for the fist time in the event’s 16-year history.

“As well as celebrating the ingenuity of local speed legend Burt Munro, the Challenge, the event is about riders getting together and sharing their passion for motorcycles and racing.

“We missed that this year, so it will be great to see everyone again!”

“We’re extremely grateful to our sponsors for returning to support us once again, particularly Indian Motorcycle who are sponsoring two of our signature events.”

Spectator tickets can be purchased and competitor registrations completed at https://www.burtmunrochallenge.co.nz/.

Great South, Southland Regional Development Agency, supports the Southland Motorcycle Club with event management and delivery, and Conference and Events Manager Karen Witham said there was a real sense of excitement as the event returns.

“There’s a real buzz around Southland at the moment with our newly developed Invercargill City centre, new hotel and other attractions around Southland.

“The Challenge is always a fantastic opportunity to showcase our beautiful region and we’ll be encouraging our New Zealand and international visitors to take the time to take it all in.”
