The community has got behind the big Fireworks & Music Festival at Rugby Park, Invercargill on Saturday 21 November.

So much so that organiser Peter Kett has been bowled over by the kind offers and assistance he has received to make the event happen.

“The number of people and organisations that have made sacrifices and changed long standing arrangements to allow this event to go ahead is just amazing,” says Kett. “The safety zone we require for such a spectacular show is quite considerable and many in that zone have weighed in to help us to achieve what will be a great show for all who attend.”

He goes on to outline some of the concessions made. “Splash Palace will close early on the 21st, shutting the doors at 5.00pm costing them four hours of business. They have also donated fifty family swim passes which can be won by lucky draws on the night of the event. The Invercargill Bridge Club has also been very accommodating as Saturday 21 November was the date of their ILT sponsored tournament, their biggest of the year. They kindly changed from evening to the afternoon for us. The Caledonian Pipe Band have cancelled practice that night while further afield the Ascot Park Hotel have special family rates for people from outside the city who may want to stay overnight after the show. Deputy Mayor, Darren Ludlow, has offered his services as MC free of charge and businesses such as BDL Productions, Brazier Scaffolding, Fleet Imaging Southland and ASA Electrical have all made contributions above and beyond what we would expect. Best of all it is Junior Rugby here in Southland that will benefit from everyone’s contribution.”

Kett is promising a wonderful night with musical entertainment from 6.00pm headlined by Jody Direen followed by the massive fireworks display later in the evening. “We have been promised a spectacular show, one with some great effects that will be best viewed from inside the stadium to appreciate the total effect.”

There will be giveaways for the children plus a variety of food and beverage, including licensed bars, and with the spectacular fireworks display, a great night is in store. Safety considerations mean the capacity at the venue will be limited to 10,000 on the night so it will be wise to book early. Prices start from $12 for adults and $7 for children for general admission while uncovered seating in the grandstand is $22 for adults and $12 for children while covered seating is $29 for all. Tickets are available from the Invercargill City Council Booking Office and via www.ticketdirect.co.nz Booking fees may apply.

Groups and corporates are also catered for with a Corporate Box available at a cost of $990 inclusive of gst which includes $300 worth of food while the larger corporate lounge area is available at a cost of $40 per head with food and beverage additional to that cost.
