The next chapter of SPW Wrestling is coming to Invercargill this Saturday night, and it’s looking like a sellout show.
Co-organiser Kane Bates (aka K-9) said the annual Halloween Haunting show, which is being held at the Corinthians Centre a week early, always attracts a great crowd.
“The crowd dresses up in Halloween theme and we have a best dressed competition as well.”
K-9 will be up against his rival JK Moody who he’s been training with for the past eight years, both locally and overseas.
The pair are the backbone of SPW and have a ‘classic’ wrestling story that they promise will be quite different this weekend.
In the main championship event is Cool Guy Sky vs Ryder - two more friends who also started wrestling together from aged 16, initially travelling from Dunedin every week to get involved in SPW.
Kane said there will also be a construction site rules match featuring tradies in high vis and tool belts, wrestling amongst wheel barrows, ladders and hammers.
Also keep a look out for a few names from the past that have come back into wrestling including Wanna Fight who has returned after five years.
SPW delivers hard-hitting, fast-paced independent pro wrestling, and is described as a hybrid of live theatre and breath-taking stunts, with entertaining characters and storylines.
It has been going strong for almost 10 years in the south, and in August 2025 the club is planning a big anniversary event.
Wrestlers train in the gym five days a week and are in the ring two nights - many come from martial arts backgrounds and are naturally fit and athletic.
