The activity of the Royal New Zealand Air Force over the last few days certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The go-rounds and touch and go’s of a C – 130 Hercules on Thursday captured the imaginations of many. Whatsoninvers was bombarded with pics and videos of the transport plane that has been one of the rocks of our air force for several decades.

Here’s the flight path of the Herc from flightradar, note the low altitude.

The RNZAF  Hercules aircraft are scheduled to be replaced by the C-130 Super Hercules next year.

Today a RNZAF P3 Orion aircraft departed Invers heading back to its base in Auckland. ( Did you hear it??)

In a statement a NZ Defense Force spokesperson told whatsoninvers  “Air crew on our Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3K2 Orion were conducting maritime patrols for illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities in the Southern Ocean.”

Like the C-130 Hercules, the RNZAF will soon start retiring the faithful reliable Orion’s and replace them with the Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft.
