The world of Southern Pro Wrestling has changed significantly since Covid-19, but following its sold out ‘Homecoming’ in November 2022, the boys are ready for the first big show of the year.

Co-founder Marc Perry, who helped set up the training school in Invercargill, said post Covid they are almost starting from scratch with a bit of a reset.

SPW previously featured on TVNZ and used to get record breaking numbers at ILT Stadium, and is building back up to that strong following through its own SPW On Demand streaming app.

Southern Pro Wrestling can be best described as hard-hitting, fast-paced Independent Pro Wrestling.

“We are a hybrid of live theatre and breath-taking stunts with entertaining characters and storylines.”

With the only training school in the South Island, many of the stars of its upcoming March 11 show Mega Powers (Will Power & Cool Guy Sky), along with Deadly Sins (JK Moody & K9), are all home-grown stars that have also been making names for themselves overseas in Australia & the UK.

Held at the Invercargill Workingmen’s club, the featured match of the event named Fight For Gold, is a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match for the SPW New Zealand Tag Team Championships.

There will also be a Fight For Gold briefcase match, with qualifying matches on the night to determine the final competitors, the winner receives a briefcase containing a contract that gives them the opportunity to cash in a Championship opportunity.

Marc said professional wrestling was a really strong form of entertainment, and something that was made really popular through the WWE is a ladder match. The match ended up involving tables and chairs, which are used as weapons, which led to the popular match type ‘’TLC’’.

“It’s a human demolition derby, like a live car crash show,” he said.

Formed in 2015, the SPW promotion has trained homegrown Invercargill stars and pitted them against well known superstars from the WWE and Japan.

The event is for all ages and is a great family night out, pre-purchasing tickets through Eventfinda is recommended so you can select your seats, the events are known to sell out!
