More great news for Esk Street now the streets redevelopment is complete. After remaining unoccupied for several months, three vacant shops on Esk Street have found new tenants, bringing renewed life and business opportunities to the area after the relocation of several stores to the Invercargill Central Shopping Centre in late 2022.
Leading the charge is Acquisitions, a well-known Dunedin-based giftware chain, which has set its sights on the old Pagani store.
In addition to Acquisitions, Cozy Nook, a local retailer on Leven Street, has decided to expand its footprint by opening a second store on Esk Street.
Taking over the old Cotton On store, Cozy Nook aims to cater to a broader customer base and further establish its presence in the city.
However, the most significant addition to Esk Street is the opening of Backdoor, New Zealand’s largest authentic surf, skate, and streetwear chain.
The long-awaited store is located in the former Hallensteins site on the corner of Dee and Esk Streets. Backdoors opening today (Wednesday 31st May) marks a milestone for local surf and skate enthusiasts, who will now have access to a wider range of premium apparel and equipment.
The arrival of these new businesses is expected to invigorate the local economy, attracting visitors from Invercargill and beyond. This now leaves two stores left to fill the former Michael Hill store site and a Vape store
