After years of speculation over whether Aussie chain Chemist Warehouse or New Zealand’s own Bargain Chemist would move into the old Farmers building on Dee Street, the wait is over.

Property owner Gaire Thompson of Pascoe Properties has confirmed to whatsoninvers.nz that Bargain Chemist will occupy part of the former Farmers site. Additional tenants are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Bargain Chemist have been advertising jobs for the Invercargill store on Seek.

In another Pascoe Properties-owned building, Hunting & Fishing has been confirmed as the new tenant for the former Smiths City site. The outdoor retailer plans to relocate there in early 2026.

Before the move, owner Gerald MacRae said the team will host their annual Camping Expo at the Smiths City location on 31 October–2 November and 7–9 November.

Two more Dee Street sites have also recently changed hands. The former CleanFlow and Property Brokers buildings have both been sold.

It’s understood Mag & Turbo will move into the former Dairy,(better known in the day as Video Ezy later Saddlery shop) while the Property Brokers building’s future is yet to be confirmed — with the business itself relocating to Yarrow Street, next to GWD Toyota.
