UPDATE: Fatal shooting in Invercargill

A woman has died following a shooting incident in Invercargill last night.

A second person was also shot during the incident and has been transferred to hospital with serious injuries.

Invercargill Police are responding to a firearms incident in the suburb of Newfield.

Initial reports indicate that two people have been shot.

One person is in custody and is assisting Police with their inquiries.

Police are not looking for anyone else at this time.

Police have cordoned off Otepuni Ave, between Lindisfarne St and Inglewood Rd.

The incident occurred on Otepuni Ave shortly after 8pm and the road is currently closed.
