- Over 100 women attended Winton’s annual Pink Lunch to support breast cancer research.
- The event, now in its 14th year, raised $5500 for the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
- Local businesses played a key role in supporting the event’s fundraising efforts.
Pink was the colour of the day in Winton on Friday,(27/9) as part a ladies lunch to raise funds for breast cancer.
115 women from across Southland attended the sold-out event, now in its 14th year.
Complete with lunch, bubbles and fundraising raffles, guests were also encouraged to dress in pink - the colour of the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
Coordinated by the Winton Business Association, the event has already raised $52,000 for breast cancer research and education, and coordinator Maria Scammell said that this year another $5500 was added to the total.
And it was the on-going support from businesses in the area that had made all the difference, she said.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the donations this year. Without the great support of local businesses, and those who attend the pink lunch every year, we certainly couldn’t have raised this much money.”
Guest speaker this year was the new Southern Steel new coach Wendy Frew, who outlined her plans and goals for the new netball season.
