Winds Whip Up Fires Over The South
Gale force winds have been making life difficult for many fire fighters around the south.
Fire fighters from around northern Southland have been battling a blaze at Ardlussa.
Fire crews have also been tackling a fire in felled trees near at Wendonside near Waikaia.
It doesn’t end there, Stuff reports that fire crews and volunteers battled strong winds to bring a fire on a farm at Pukeawa near Balclutha today.
A calving shed went up in the flames with another shed close by damaged in the fire.
The upside is that stock was moved well clear of the fire and no animals were injured.
The winds are forecast to drop away this evening but strong Nor’westers turning Sou’west are forecast for tomorrow.
A restricted fire season is in place over Southland.
