Two in one day!

If you’ve been scanning the interweb today for local issues, a couple of crackers have surfaced.

Firstly The Southland Times has a story running that Mayor Tim Shadbolt and a delegation of Council representatives plan to go to sister city Kumagaya during the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

As you might imagine this has basically been given the thumbs down judging by comments on social media.

Catch up with that story here

Secondly and may be more importantly, The Southland Times reports former city architect Bob Simpson comparing inner city invers to an elderly mother who is dying of cancer, RIP Invercargill Ouchhh!!!!

Is the inner city in particular in its death throws? Haven’t we just had a big upgrade of the city centre? Aren’t there big plans to get folk back into the town centre, re-branding and all that stuff?

And would it be appropriate for a council delegation to take a trip to see our long standing sister in Japan in RWC year? I mean Invers and Kumagaya have been sister city for many years.

What do you make of it all?
