In 2017, Council undertook a well overdue rebrand, ushering in a fresh new look and saying goodbye to the rather tired-looking, 30-year-old logo. The world we live in today is barely recognisable in many ways to Southland way back in 1988.
The change reflected in Council’s rebrand has strong parallels with the stories that will be told in My Southland Story, which has been launched this month.
The project kicked off with an insight into the incredible Welcome Rock Trails that Tom and Katie O’Brien have created in their amazing backyard, overlooking northern Southland.
They are personal stories – insights into what makes our modern, vibrant district and region tick.
We are delighted to be partnering with Studio Jubb on this wonderful project, which I have no doubt will open a lot of eyes in other places to the endless opportunities in Southland.

You’ll be hearing a lot about the Southland story in the next wee while as we bring together perspectives on what it is to be a Southlander. I reckon we might be surprised at some of the answers we receive – reflecting the ever-increasing diversity of our district and region.
We know we live in a truly special place – and we need Southlanders be great ambassadors to help our district continue to thrive and grow.
So please check out mysouthlandstory.com each week as new stories are revealed – our stories, about us, and the place we love to call home.
