Whittaker's has gone full childhood nostalgia with its latest limited-edition block — white chocolate loaded with bubblegum flavouring and actual gumdrops.

The Gumdrop Block hits supermarket shelves Monday. It's made with Whittaker's 28% cocoa white chocolate and contains five different gumdrop flavours scattered through the block. Apparently you can taste the difference between each one. Which is either impressive or a sign we've all lost the plot a little, depending on your disposition toward confectionery ambition.

It's the brand's first new flavour since last year's Banana Caramel drop.

Whittaker's chief marketing officer Soraya Cottin described it as one of the brand's more experimental limited editions. "Gumdrop Block has got to be Whittaker's at its most playful. It's a flavour that's a little unexpected, very nostalgic, and unlike anything we've released before," Cottin said.

She's not wrong on the unexpected front. White chocolate and bubblegum is the kind of combination that sounds like it was workshopped by a seven-year-old with full veto power — which, depending on how your week is going, might be exactly what you need.

Limited edition means it won't be around forever. Worth grabbing one before it disappears, if only to settle the important question of whether you can genuinely tell a lemon gumdrop from a raspberry one buried inside a block of chocolate.
