Peacefully on 10 March, 2024 surrounded by family. A relentless warrior in his battle against cancer until the bitter end. Cherished husband of Julia. MURRAY, Walter Robert:
Passed away peacefully at Bupa Ascot Resthome, on Sunday 10th March 2024. Dearly loved son of Bert* and Molly* Murray. Cherished brother and brother-in-law of Brian and Jan, Kayleen, Dave* and Colin, Denis* and Maree, Colin and Joy. Loved uncle of all his nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Bupa for their wonderful care of Walter, and a very special thanks to Erin, Shane and the Wilson Family; your love and support meant the world to Walter. A private interment will be held, followed by a Memorial Service to be held in the Gorge Road Country Club, 1242 Seaward Downs-Gorge Road, on Thursday 14th March, at 1.30pm. POWLEY, Elsie Myrtle:  
Peacefully after a short illness on Friday, 8 March 2024 at Southland Hospital, aged 91 years. Loved daughter of Charles* and Olive, and sister of Charlie and Margaret, Ian and Nola, Shirley and Owen. Dearly loved wife of the late Arthur (Cowboy) and the late Rex. Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Sheryle, Annette and Ross, John and Kay, and step mother to Stephen and Jo. Cherished by her grandchildren, great grand children and great great grand children. A very much loved aunt of Sandra and Matthew, Kristina and Nicki and all her nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Elisie’s life will be held in the Bluff Community Church, cnr Palmer and Foyle Streets Bluff on Thursday 14 March at 1.30pm, the service will conclude with a burial at the Greeenpoint Cemetery. RODGERS, Dan:
Passed away peacefully at Southland Hospital, after a short illness on Saturday, March 9, 2024. One month short of his 93rd birthday. Devoted husband of the late Nola (nee Perks). Much loved father and father-in-law of Robyn and Grant McFarlane (Cromwell) and Dave and Sharon (Invercargill) and also a much loved uncle to Craig and Julie Rodgers. Cherished by his grandchildren and enjoyed by his great-grandchildren. A cherished friend of Gina Gilmour. Thanks to Driving with Miss Daisy, St John Ambulance crews and to the staff of the Southland Hospital Medical Ward for their care and support. In lieu of flowers donations to St John Ambulance can be left at the service. SHELTON, Jill:
(Late of 11 Albany Street), Born 8.1.1933 – Died at Albany House, Gore on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Much loved youngest daughter of Sadie (Tuppy) and Wilfred (Shelly) Shelton, loved sister of Denise, loved Aunt of Billy Olds, Rose Thom, Penny Olds, and Liz Cooper, also a loved and respected great-Aunt and great-great-Aunt, respected friend, keen sportswoman and proud citizen of Gore. In fulfilment of Jill’s wishes a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 15 at the Gore Town and Country Club Esplin Room, Bury Street, at 1.30pm. THOMSON, Irene:
26.08.1935 – 09.03.2024
Passed away peacefully at Terrace View Retirement Village, Ashburton, surrounded by her loving family. Dearly loved wife of the late John (Jack) Thomson and loved mother and mother-in-law of John and Lyn, Sally and David Brydie, Mark and Elspeth, and Willie and Hayley. Adored daughter of the late Margaret and Robert Swapp, and loved sister of the late Eric Swapp and the late Margaret Blane. Adored Granny to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special mention to Terrace View Retirement Village staff, Tinwald Medical Centre and Dr Iain Melton (Christchurch Heart Group) for their wonderful care of Irene. A service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held in our Chapel, cnr East and Cox Street, Ashburton, on Thursday, March 14 commencing at 1.00pm, followed by a private interment.
