Passed peacefully at Calvary Hospital on Monday 6 March 2023, aged 87. Dearly loved husband of Brenda. Loved father of the late Roger, and Pamela Hood and John Cooper (Australia); grandad of William and Alexa, Dylan and Courtney, Isabella and Oliver, George and Laura; and great-grandad of Shilah, Carter, and new baby Mack (all Australia). A young 96, stubborn, independent, cheeky at times, fiercely loyal to her family and friends, adopted ‘mum’ and ‘granny’ of many, lover of music, and wonderful gardener. Much-cherished wife and life-long friend of Stuart James Geange, deeply loved mother and mother-in-law of Alan (Stuart) and Audrey* Geange, Paul and Heather Geange, Diane and Daryl* Sleeman, and Dawn Geange; proud grandmother and great-grandmother of Wayne, Lisa, Cam, Amber, Sarah, Benjamin, Misharna, Sophie, and Beau. KERR, Ray:
Ray Kerr died on the Feast of the Assumption (August 15) 2021 but his funeral proceedings were stymied by the second Covid lockdown. The family are marking Ray’s life in the Basilica Parish, at 9am Mass (he was a regular attendee), on Thursday, March 30. Then, at 10.00am Fr Brendan will bless his gravestone at Eastern Cemetery (very close to the Main Gates across from Ascot Park entrance on East Road). After this, at around 10.45am we will have a morning tea function at Ascot Park. All who knew him are welcome to join the family to honour Ray at any or all of these events.

Dawn died on Saturday, March 4, 2023, while in the care of the wonderful Otago Community Hospice staff. Dawn died as she lived, determined to maintain control of whatever remained of her life and to establish what processes would follow her death, including not having a funeral service. She was the only daughter of James and Jessie Rutherford. She was the much loved sister and sister-in-law of Jim and Ann, and the much loved aunt of Matthew. Jim, Ann, and Matthew pass on their heartfelt thanks to Dunedin Hospital and Dunedin Hospice staff. The care Dawn received in her final days was truly extraordinary. These thanks are extended to family members and friends who have supported Dawn over the years. A special thanks to Lyla, Ken and Glenn. Messages to 10 Walker Place, Alexandra 9320.

Vicki, Warren and all of the Family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the expressions of love and support we received after the passing of our much loved Dad, grandad, great-grandad and great-great-grandad Baz. To those who attended Basils funeral, and especially those who travelled long distances, also the beautiful floral tributes, cards and messages, baking, visits, phone calls were all very comforting at this sad time. A special thanks to Basil’s two nieces Virginia Murray for playing the organ so beautifully and also to Bronwyn Beker for the RSA tribute, it was very humbling. We have since received Dad’s medals that had not been collected – very special. To Peter Noble for conducting such a fitting service for Dad. It didn’t take him long to get Basil’s number and he add his own little twist – just the right man for the job Peter – thank you. To the wonderful, caring staff from Salisbury Wing at Rowena Jackson, you are truly exceptional in all that you do. Thank you for caring for Dad and being there for him when we couldn’t during Covid, you all went above and beyond for your residents, for which we are truly grateful.
