A period of heavy rain and northerly gales for western parts of the South Island.

An active front is forecast to move northwards over the South Island on Tuesday bringing periods of heavy rain to the West Coast, and possible severe northerly gales for Fiordland and western parts of Southland.

Area: Fiordland and western parts of Southland, also Stewart Island
Valid: 10 hours from 11:00pm Monday to 9:00am Tuesday
Forecast: North to northwesterly winds may approach severe gale in exposed places.
