Essential maintenance work across the Southland District this week will affect water supply and road access in several locations, as the Southland District Council continues planned upgrades and repairs.
Water Shutdowns
Water supply will be temporarily disrupted in Te Anau, Tuatapere and Edendale on set dates. These outages are necessary to carry out repair work and will affect specific areas:
- Te Anau (11 November) – Supply will be off from 10am to 3pm. Affected areas include 129 Te Anau Milford Highway, all of Patience Bay, Murchison Avenue and Kiwi Burn Place.
- Tuatapere (13 November) – Work at Waiau College will see supply interruptions from 3pm to 7pm. Properties affected include 36 to 83 Orawia Road, all of Birch Street and Carlyle Street.
- Edendale (11 November) – Repairs at 22 Hunter Street will cause interruptions from 10am to 3pm. All of Hunter Street will be affected, as well as 39 Seaward Road, 14 Melvin Street and 20 Manse Street.
Road Closures
- In Edendale, Hunter Street (from Melvin Street to Seaward Road) will be closed from 8am to 6pm on 11 November for hydrant repairs. Local property access will be maintained.
- In Winton, multiple streets including Meldrum and Wemyss will be closed on 15 November from 7am to 5pm for the Winton Open Day. A short closure from 2.30pm to 3.30pm will also affect parts of SH6. Light vehicle detours will run via Grange, Park and Bute Streets. Heavy vehicles will be diverted using Gap Road West and SH96.
Road Resealing Works
Downer crews will carry out resealing in various Winton and Wallacetown locations this week. Roads include Norman Road, Limehills Browns Road, Birse Road, and Winton Substation Road, among others.
State Highway Maintenance
Highways South is completing surface water channel and pavement repairs, as well as watercutting, across several key highways. These works include SH94 near Te Anau, SH95 near Lakefront Drive, SH96 near Winton, and SH97 near Irthing Stream. Expect stop/go controls and traffic lights in many of these areas.
Third-Party Work And Events
Additional traffic management will be in place for events and contractor work, including alternating flows on SH6 near Hundred Line Road and SH99 near Tuatapere and Riverton.
