Mal catches up with Greg Fordyce from the Southland Society of Model Engineers Inc, organisers of The Great Little Train Show, on all weekend at the SSME Club Grounds & Badminton Halls, Surrey Park, Invercargill, next to ILT Stadium Southland.

This year marks a special milestone – 40 years of The Great Little Train Show, first held back in 1985.

But the club’s history goes back much further. Formed before World War II in 1937, the Southland Society of Model Engineers restarted after the war when members returned home.

President Greg Fordyce said the club initially met in members’ homes, sheds, and garages before securing grounds at Surrey Park, where they built their own clubrooms and workshop. Read more Model Train Enthusiasts Celebrate 40 Years.
