The All of Government COVID-19 National Response will provide an update at 1.00 pm today.
Latest updates details:
- There are no new cases of Covid-19 today.
This means the total number of cases remains at 1497 - Total number of cases in Southern as of 12 May 2020: 216 (confirmed and probable).
- 7 are active cases, 207 now recovered and two deceased. The most recent case in the Southern district was reported on 18 April. Since then there have been no new cases in the district.
Twelve more people have recovered and just two people are in hospital, neither are in ICU. - 197,084 tests in total have been completed.
- Hospital visits in level 2
- Dr Bloomfield says hospital visits under level 2 will be managed on the ground by DHBs but intensive care, the emergency department and maternity will be still one visitor at a time although more than one person will be able to visit in a single day.
DHB funding, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the funding announced earlier today for DHBs invests over $4 billion more into healthcare.“We never know when the next virus or health emergency is going to come.”Ardern says the government inherited a number of healthcare system issues.She says the strength of the health response meant we were able to move to level 2 quickly.
International Nurses’ Day, Dr Bloomfield has issued an updated amended order under the Health Act allowing people to enter businesses to prepare for the move to level 2. He pays tribute to nurses on international nurses’ day. “I’m sure all of New Zealand will join me in thanking our nurses today and indeed every day. Kia kaha.”
- Ardern has echoed those sentiments for all our nurses.

Ardern says flexible starting and finishing times to space out necessary commutes is an important conversation that needs to happen been employees and employers.“Plan you trip, keep your distance and of course track your journey.”
