• Queenstown Police carried out drug-related search warrants, seizing drugs, cash, and firearms.
  • The operation follows reports of rising drug use ahead of upcoming large local events.
  • Police urge the public to report suspected drug suppliers and seek help for addiction.

Queenstown Lakes Police have executed multiple search warrants targeting alleged drug suppliers this week. Conducted over Monday and Tuesday, the searches led to the discovery of cash, brown crystal substances, cannabis, and capsules. Additionally, a firearms licence holder had their licence suspended, and 11 firearms were confiscated from their possession.

“At this time, no charges have been laid, but enquiries are ongoing,” said Detective Nicola Clark.

The latest warrants follow previous weeks of similar operations, during which Police seized cash, cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, and LSD. These efforts were prompted by investigations indicating a rise in drug use within the Queenstown area.

With several large events approaching in the district, authorities hope these seizures will contribute to keeping both the local community and visitors safe. Detective Clark emphasised the risks associated with drug use, stating, “We know the risk posed by taking drugs, and more often than not, people don’t understand what they’re ingesting.”

She added that there have been numerous instances where individuals required medical attention after consuming substances that were not what they believed. The police encourage all partygoers to “enjoy themselves and get home safely.”

Detective Clark also noted the crucial role the community plays in helping the police tackle illicit drug distribution. She urged anyone with information on drug suppliers to contact the police by calling 105 or visiting their local station. Information can also be reported anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.

For those affected by drug addiction, support is available through the Alcohol and Drug helpline at 0800 787 797, or by texting 8681.
