Volunteers Needed For Cancer Support

Could you spare a few hours a month to transport somebody with cancer to their oncology appointment?

The Cancer Society is urgently seeking new volunteers. Volunteer co-ordinator Robyn Flowers said with an increase in clients and requests for support, they needed to bring some new people onboard. “Everybody is just chasing their tails at the moment.”

“People don’t always have family living locally. Our communities are very transient.”

Robyn said they currently had about 20 volunteer drivers and they could do with at least another six to 10 more who are available during the day; or people who would like to be involved in visiting a client in their home.

She said some appointments for clients might only be a one-off, or regularly over a period of time. A contribution toward mileage costs is available.
