Southland Hospital’s Careers Incubator welcomed 13 students from Verdon College and Te Wharekura O Arowhenua today.

The programme provides students with the opportunity to view health professionals in their workplace and to experience a health care work environment.

The Year 12 and 13 students participated in hands-on learning, practicing how to remove stitches and staples used for wounds, listened to career talks from health professionals and toured the Hospitals laboratory and radiology departments.

Incubator Coordinator, Jan Tait said the Incubator Programme has been running for 12 years, and it was always exciting when someone who had gone to high school in Southland came back to work at Southland Hospital after their professional training.
