Firemen are observing a huge vegetation fire in Southland and will send helicopters to battle the burn right off the bat Sunday.
Fire Communications shift director Andrew Norris said it was indistinct how the burst, at Awarua Bay, close to Bluff, began, yet police were exploring.
“It’s a huge fire consuming more than 25 hectares however there’s no vehicle access,” Norris said.
The fire, which was not compromising any structures or homes, began before 6pm and two helicopters dropped water on it however “didn’t establish a lot of connection”.
Helicopters would get back to battle the burst toward the beginning of the day, with rustic firemen from Hedgehope checking it short-term.
The fire was consuming “a ton of grasses and gorses and peat”, Norris said.
