Vandals have stripped the toilet seats from the Taramea Bay public facilities and smashed glass throughout the building — leaving visitors with nothing between them and cold stainless steel.

Southland District Council crews have been on site to clean up and make the facility safe. The glass is gone. The seats are not.

The council was blunt about what that means for anyone planning a stop. "Your derriere, posterior, gluteus maximus, caboose, patootie — or whatever you choose to call it — may be in for an icy surprise," it said.

It's not the first time. The council described those responsible as "brainless vandals" causing "pointless damage" — language that reflects the frustration of repeatedly repairing facilities that serve the whole community.

Anyone with information about who is responsible is asked to contact Southland District Council.
