Two cars collided at the intersection of Rimu Road and Longbush South Road in Southland.

One ambulance is at the scene and another on route.

A St John spokesman said three people have serious injuries and will be taken to Southland hospital.

Cordons are in place and motorists are asked to be patient.

UPDATED: St Johns spokesperson confirmed three ambulances plus manager at the scene.

  • One patient in a critical condition has been transported to Kew Hospital
  • Two other patients (critical to serious) still on scene, helicopter on its way from Dunedin.
  • Three patients with critical, serious and moderate injuries have been transported to Kew Hospital by ambulance.
