UPDATE: Police can now confirm one person has died following a crash in Invercargill.

The two vehicle crash happened at the intersection of Newcastle Street and Clifton Street about 9.10pm yesterday.

Two people remain in a serious condition at Southland Hospital and Christchurch Hospital.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

Police responded to a serious crash in Invercargill on Friday night.

The crash happened at the intersection of Newcastle Street and Clifton Street about 9.10pm.

A police spokesperson confirmed that one vehicle had rolled, three trucks attended and officers extracted four people who were trapped inside the vehicles.

Four people have been taken to hospital, two with serious injuries.

The road has been closed and the Serious Crash Unit notified.
