After over two decades in business, Roy and Melinda Barnsdale of Windsor United Video have chosen to retire, put their feet up, and close their doors for good.
That leaves just one video hire store left in Invercargill, owned by Daryle Blacker, who sold the Barnsdales’ their business all those years ago.
Roy and Melinda have enjoyed the competitive rivalry of the two DVD stores over the years, and have even managed to keep smiles on their faces as they’ve weathered the transitional storms of VHS, DVD, and finally, online streaming.
But now, they are ready to move onto a new challenge – learning how to slow down and enjoy their retirement years.
The closing down sale begins today and will run through until October 30, 2019. Everything from ex-rental DVDs through to shelving will be for sale. Once the final DVD has left the store at the end of October, the building will then be tenanted by Hospice Southland.
Hospice Southland recently opened a pop-up store in the South City Mall, but also plans to open a permanent one in the Windsor United Video building by December 1, 2019.
