Two Invercargill Youth Councillors have been selected to become Youth MPs.

Youth Councillors Danielle Carson and Stephen Jones will represent New Zealand First MP, Ria Bond and Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand MP, Dr Kennedy Graham respectively.

They will attend training at the beginning of their tenure, which runs from January 25, 2016 until July 25, 2016. They will also attend Youth Parliament on July 19 and 20, 2016.

Council’s Community Development Officer Oliver Mortensen said Miss Carson and Mr Jones had been members of the Invercargill Youth Council for three years and were passionate about youth issues, had a strong interest in politics and were committed to doing their best in Youth Parliament.

“The Invercargill Youth Council is pleased to have offered Danielle and Stephen leadership training and opportunities over the three years they have been on the Youth Council. They have grasped every opportunity offered with enthusiasm and demonstrate that they have the support of the Council and their peers,” Mr Mortensen said.
