Police have released the names of two climbers who lost their lives on the north buttress of Sabre Peak in Fiordland over the weekend.
The climbers were 28-year-old Connor Scott McKenzie, a dual citizen of New Zealand and Canada, and 23-year-old Australian citizen Tanmay Shetankumar Bhati. Both men had been living in Australia.
Police confirmed, “Police can now release the names of the two climbers that died on the north buttress of Sabre Peak, Fiordland, at the weekend.”
Officers remain in contact with the men’s families and are continuing to offer support as they deal with the loss.
The deaths have been referred to the Coroner for further examination.
