Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker has selected Queenstown teenager Tristan Taquet as the 2019 Clutha-Southland Youth MP.
The Wakatipu High School pupil will represent Mr Walker in Parliament as the Youth MP next July, debating topical issues with other Youth MPs from throughout New Zealand.
“The calibre of entries was incredibly high and made the decision to select one candidate incredibly hard. I want to thank everyone who submitted an application,” Mr Walker says.
“Tristan will bring a strong presence to Youth Parliament as our Youth MP in 2019. He is involved heavily in his community and has a passion for doing what he can for others, a core value of what is needed in a Member of Parliament.”
“Tristan will come to Wellington in July next year to experience what it’s like to be an MP for a couple of days. He will participate in Parliament, debate a number of issues in Select Committees and attend caucus.”
“I’m sure he will enjoy his time and the experience and offer a strong voice for the youth of Clutha-Southland on a range of issues.”
