Three people have appeared in court on a range of drug-related charges following a major Police operation in Invercargill.

Operation Mist, led by Southland Police’s Organised Crime Group, came to a close on 6 and 7 September 2025. The planned operation aimed to disrupt the sale and supply of illicit drugs across Southland.

Police carried out four simultaneous search warrants at addresses in the region. During these searches, they found an ounce (28 grams) of pre-packed methamphetamine, along with amounts of cannabis and other Class A and B drugs. Officers also seized $10,000 in cash and a range of items linked to drug sales.

The methamphetamine alone has an estimated street value of $21,000.

As a result of the operation, three individuals were arrested and later appeared in court on several drug-related charges. Police say further charges have not been ruled out.

Southern District Organised Crime Group Manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Baird, said the operation showed the value of teamwork across different Police units.

“The number of teams involved in this investigation is not only a testament to the level of collaboration that we have come to rely upon in Southland – but also represents the dedication Police have to disrupting this type of offending.

“It’s estimated that the methamphetamine seized alone has a street value of $21,000 and the social harm this could cause would be astronomical.

“I am extremely pleased with this result and would like to commend the teams on their efforts,” Detective Senior Sergeant Baird says.

Police say they will continue to focus on organised criminal behaviour and encourage the public to report suspicious activity. If it's happening now, people should call 111. Otherwise, reports can be made on 105 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
