Today we woke up to the sad news with the loss of one of the world’s funniest comedians Rik Mayall dies 56 at his home in the UK.
In the 1980s Mayall was part of the Comic Strip, a hugely influential group of alternative young comics that included Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders and Mayall’s writing and performing partner, Adrian Edmondson.
He was best known for co-writing and performing in The Young Ones, a sitcom about slovenly students that was much loved by those it satirised.
Social media has been a buzz with people from fans to celebrities all paying tributes and rightly so.
So here we pay tribute with look at some of the many different characters Rik is famous for, he got better with age.
Rik came into our lives as Rick or Prick as he was called by Vyvyan on “The Young Ones”
Not to leave out singing Living Doll with Cliff Richard
Then there was Ritchie in “Bottom”
Lord Flashheart in comedy classic Blackadder.
And the movie “Drop Dead Fred”
My another great character was him playing nasty politician Allan B*stard in “The New Statesman”
And Colin Gregson in “Bad New” two heavy metal bad mockamentries
Rik also starred in a number of Comic Strip shows including this one “Fist Full Of Travellers Cheques”
And one final Youngs Ones clip with the “University Challenge” episode which is fitting with Invers very own CueTV reviving the Quiz show http://whatsoninvers.co.nz/university-challenge-is-back/
