In a heartbreaking incident in Fiordland National Park today, a 10-year-old Australian girl on holiday with her family tragically lost her life after being swept down Marian Creek. Southland Area Commander Inspector Mike Bowman confirmed the details of the event.

The incident occurred around 11.40 am, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. The young girl had fallen into the fast-flowing creek and was subsequently located and retrieved from the water.

Efforts to save her life were extensive. CPR was administered, and a doctor was swiftly flown to the scene. Unfortunately, despite these valiant efforts, the girl could not be revived.

Inspector Bowman described the event as traumatic for everyone involved and emphasised that the police are providing support to the family. He extended sincere condolences on behalf of the police to the girl’s family.

In a gesture of gratitude, Inspector Bowman also thanked the public and all who played a role in responding to this tragic incident. Their efforts in trying to assist the young girl were acknowledged.

Currently, the police are preparing a report for the Coroner to provide further details on the incident. As of now, no additional information is available.
