More than 1600 children from around Southland took on the Mitre 10 Mega Invercargill Tough Kid event at Rugby Park Stadium on Wednesday 4th December.
Presented by Sport Southland, Tough Kid involves a 1km long purpose-built obstacle course and is one of the most highly-anticipated events on the school calendar, with schools from across Southland represented.
General manager Luciana Garcia said Sport Southland was proud to host such a popular event.
“We hear a lot about decreasing participation levels and how hard it can be to encourage children to be active, but when the barriers are removed, children just want to get out there and have fun with their mates.”
Tough Kid could not happen without the support of Mitre 10 Mega Invercargill and a family of other sponsors and contributors, Garcia said.
“There is a huge amount of work that goes into putting an event like this on. Our entire staff are involved supporting our events team, and we certainly appreciate the help which comes in from business, organisations and volunteers from the community. Seeing the smiles on the so many children’s’ faces makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
