• Ten Torpedo7 stores will be rebranded as outlet shops focusing on discounted outdoor gear
• Two more store closures confirmed as the retailer tightens its physical store footprint
• Online sales and flagship stores will remain key priorities for the brand going forward

Torpedo7 is undergoing major changes under its new owners, Tahua Partners, with a mix of store closures and rebranding plans announced. The company has confirmed that it will shut down its Rotorua and Westgate stores, while transforming 10 of the remaining 16 locations into outlet-style stores, branded as The Outlet.

The shift in direction comes as part of a wider strategy to focus more on online sales and support six flagship stores nationwide. In a statement, the company said this move reflects changing shopping habits and a strong demand for outlet retail experiences.

This is not the first wave of store changes for the brand. Back in June 2024, it was reported by whatsoninvers.nz that Torpedo7 would close stores in Invercargill, Nelson, Palmerston North, and Porirua. Those closures are now being followed by more in Rotorua and Westgate, marking a significant shift in the company's physical presence across New Zealand.

Torpedo7, known for its range of outdoor adventure and sports gear, has been under the ownership of Tahua Partners since mid-2023. The group appears committed to reshaping the business into a leaner, more agile operation that combines online shopping convenience with discounted in-store experiences.

The exact locations of the ten stores converting to The Outlet branding have not yet been made public. However, the company says the changes are intended to improve the shopping experience for customers looking for quality gear at reduced prices, while still supporting key regional hubs with flagship stores.
