Sports fans will have no shortage of options in the south this weekend. The SIT Zero Fees Southland Sharks and Highlanders are both in action in Invercargill on Saturday (April 22) night.

The Highlanders return to Super Rugby action after last week’s bye and face the Sunwolves at Rugby Park from 5.15pm, while the Sharks square off against the Nelson Giants in the National Basketball League at ILT Stadium Southland from 7pm.

For rugby fans looking to back up at the basketball, a special discounted ticket price is on offer.

Southland Sharks General Manager Jill Bolger says those fans who attend the rugby earlier in the evening can show their rugby ticket at ILT Stadium Southland to access the special price of $12 plus booking fee for adults and $6 plus booking fee for children.

Bolger said it was designed to encourage the rugby crowd to make the most of the top-shelf sporting double-header.

“It’s a big game for the Sharks and we’d love to see a noisy Highlanders contingent make the after-match trip to the Stadium and get in behind our boys. What better way to cap a big Highlanders’ win than to be part of the best sporting atmosphere in the NBL in our Shark Tank,” she said.

“It’s outstanding value for money and it could be a good contest between the Highlanders and Sharks as to who scores the most points,” Bolger joked.

Both teams are heavily favoured to record victories with the TAB suspending head-to-head betting on the Highlanders and offering a 42.5 point start on the Sunwolves.

The Giants first have to face the Canterbury Rams in Christchurch tonight, before travelling south to take on the Sharks on Saturday.
