The clock is ticking down to what will be a big but unofficial Invers reunion next month.

The Tax Return, a reunion of former Inland Revenue Department staff in Invercargill is booked in for the weekend of 10th and 11th November.

Organiser Tracy Kilkelly says they already have well over 100 confirmed as coming.

Tracy Kilkelly says that number continues to grow.

She says interest is strong for the Friday afternoon reunion drinks at the Level One bar at The Kelvin Hotel on Friday the 10th.

Ms Kilkelly says The Kelvin was the place go to place for Friday afternoon drinks.’

She says 3.30pm it was down tools and go (!!) for those who had the appropriate credits and approval.

Ms Kilkelly reassures whatsoninvers that the IRD office was staffed after this time to handle public enquiries.

She says interest is also growing for a luncheon being held at The Northern Tavern on Saturday 11th November.

Tracy Kilkelly says it’s been funny how many former former IRD staff she has bumped into since notice of The Tax Return reunion came out a few months ago.

Just some of the legions of staff that have worked at IRD Invers over the years. Were you one of them or know someone who worked at IRD ? Pic supplied

She says the power of social media has also helped spread the word and generate interest.

As for where are they coming from? Ms Kilkelly says they are coming from all over New Zealand with multiple numbers coming from the North Island.

She says one ex staffer now living in Australia has booked to come across.

Tracy Kilkelly says ex staffer Danny McCoy, who now works for the BBC in the UK is a definite starter.

She says it was Mr McCoy who came up with the phrase “The Tax Return”

Tracy Kilkelly says everyone is looking forward to the Friday drinkies so former staff can re-connect and have a really good gossip.

She says music from the soundtrack of the 80’s will be playing but stresses that the fashion of the times, big padded shoulders or hairstyles strong in hairspray is unlikely to be seen.

Any former IRD staff who are still undecided are urged to get in touch with Tracy Kilkelly at NZME in Invers or get onto The Tax Return facebook page
