Remember the hit TV show Gliding On?

Memory’s of working for an old style Government department in Invers will be rekindled with much enthusiasm in November .

Organisation of gathering of former staff of Inland Revenue is rapidly gathering pace.

Organiser and former IRD staffer Tracy Kilkelly says the inspiration all came when she put up a post of facebook marking the 32th anniversary of her start working for Inland Revenue.

Tracy Kilkelly says lots and lots of people saw it and all commented “why don’t we have a get together?’

She says she has set the date as 10th of November for the do as that’s when another former staffer Danny McCoy will be back on holiday from the UK.

Ms Kilkelly says The Tax Return Reunion is not marking any particular anniversary but something that has just grown and grown.

She says the official 50th anniversary was held in 1995 when she was on staff.

Tracy Kilkelly says working for the Government was very different from what it is today.

She says IRD would have had between 180 – 190 permanent staffers with many more taken on as temps during the IR5 round .

Ms Kilkelly says back in her day the office shut at 3.30 on Friday afternoons and most of the staff would be at the Kelvin Hotel by 3.32 for Friday drinks.

She says social life was very strong back then and they would often mix with staff from other Government departments on Fridays.

Tracy Kilkelly says many staff of her day have moved onto other careers, started business or moved away to other towns or overseas.

Ms Kilkelly says she still sees some of her former work mates and has lifelong friendships from those days.

She says the weekend starts with drinks at the Kelvin Hotel on November 10th and the weekend can progress organically from there.

Asked if she would she could have her time over again at Inland Revenue? Tracy Kilkelly says “undoubtedly!”

Details of the get together are on The Tax Return Unofficial Reunion facebook page
