It’s that time again. The running of the the race that stops two nations, The Melbourne Cup.
There must’ve been plenty of doubts as to whether this race would go ahead especially when Victoria was in the grips of the Covid pandemic.
But go ahead it will, how ever the stands and embankments at Flemington will be empty. No fancy new dresses, fascinators, heels for the ladies and flash suits for the gents. A crowdless Melbourne Cup, who would’ve thought!
As for pics for the great race, The Chosen One is probably as good as any.
Why The Chosen One?
Well it’s owned by a Southland based syndicate and the syndicate managers, the Dennis Brothers know their onions when it comes to racing, that’s why.
While The Chosen One is trained and based in the Waikato, there is no shortage of South Island talent and influence with getting him to the races. Stable foreman Aleisha Legg hails from Mosgeil and former South Island jockey Daniel Stackhouse has got the ride, the ride to victory.
TCO has been to Flemington before, however last years Cup race was not to his liking and was placed well back in the field.
The 5 year old bay stallion is no stranger to big races and his third placing in last month’s Caulfield Cup should stand him in good stead for the Great Race.
We hope he likes it hot, the forecast high for Melbourne is 29 degrees.
Go The Chosen One!
