The Langlands won a Gold Award at the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards Gala evening held on Friday night in Auckland.

The Master Builders award program establishes the standard for commercial construction in New Zealand and celebrates collaboration and innovation across the building industry.

Jeff Macdonald, Leighs Construction operations manager, said it was a pleasure to attend the awards and be part of celebrating this special recognition.

“It was a very enjoyable and successful night where The Langlands Project picked up a Gold Award in the Tourism and Leisure section,” he said.
“Leighs are very proud of this iconic project from ILT for the greater Invercargill community.”

These awards differ from other industry awards as they are designed to acknowledge the collective efforts of the entire project team, rather than solely focusing on the physical structures.

ILT chair, Paddy O’Brien said the board were delighted The Langlands had won a Gold Award.

“This project was the largest development in our organisation’s history, and it helped kick start Invercargill’s inner-city redevelopment,” he said.

“Leighs completed the build during a particularly challenging time, and we couldn’t be happier with the finished product. We are pleased to see the wider project team acknowledged, on a national level, for their outstanding efforts in bringing this beautiful hotel to life.”

Each project was judged on four main components: design, contract management, construction/ delivery of project/outcome, and overall assessment. The Gold Award is achieved by getting 90% or higher of the points available.
