KidsCan supports the education of thousands of disadvantaged New Zealand children in low decile schools nationwide by providing programmes that concentrate on giving the basics such as food, clothing, shoes, healthcare and basic hygiene items to children in need.

Invercargill Santa Run coordinator Claire Blau says the aim is to get as many southern Santas to the starting line as possible.

“There are four schools in Southland that work with KidsCan, the more registered Santas we get on the day the more KidsCan can do to help our local schools.”

Venture Southland Chief Executive Paul Casson is donning a Santa suit to take on the Queens Park circuit.

“I encourage fellow Southlanders to get involved, it’s a great way to take in the beauty of Queens Park and contribute to an organisation doing such great work for children in need of the help your donation can provide.”

Each entrant in the Santa Run receives a Santa suit as part of their entry fee. Kids under 13 get a Santa hat. Other Christmas themed dress ups are also encouraged for you and your four legged friends, spot prizes will be awarded to those who get creative – reindeers, elves and even the Christmas Grinch are all welcome.

The Invercargill Santa Run course is around Queens Park starting at the Gala Street Feldwick Gates entrance. On the day registrations open at 5pm with the Santa run starting at 6.30pm. Santas can either run or walk the 2.5km Santa circuit.
