At 2:15pm Invercargill Mayor Nobby Clark released the following statement to media.

Having spent some time over the weekend considering the impact of the Code of Conduct on me, Karen and our family, and the wider community, I’ve decided to take a further month off work. Listen ad Tom describes the Mayors schedule “its a whirlwind and 12 hour days. Nobby has a huge list of things he wants done on his whiteboard. Tom also calls outs the mainstream media and how they miss quote him and use part quotes out of context. Compliments What’s On Invers for reporting the full story and what ive got to say.

With reflection, I came back to work too early, after open heart surgery.

Council approved a Leave of Absence for three months and I came back after two months. I feel I should use the remaining month to refresh and look more positively to my role as Mayor.

In the interim Deputy Mayor Tom Campbell will fill my role with support from the Committee Chairs.

I expect to return Monday 21 July.

Mayor Nobby Clark.
