Update: Invercargill Central fly through video embedded below. It’s barreling along!

That’s the state of play with progress on the building of Invercargill Central.

whatsoninvers.nz had a walk through with new centre manager Kelvin Mooney through the week.

We can only say that we are, and no doubt you will be super excited by this new development that will bring Southlanders back in to the centre of town.

In our walk through it’s clear as day that things are taking shape at a pace, in particular lead tenant Farmers. It’s starting to look like a gleaming Farmers store.

Kelvin Mooney wouldn’t give exact date as to when stage one will open, but he says that we are looking to mid-July for Farmers along with other tenants who will be targeting the same date.

He says while stage one will be a soft opening, come stage two and Christmas, Invercargill Central will have good number of retail and food outlets operating, before completion of stage 3 around February next year.

Kelvin Mooney says they are following closely what is happening with similar developments and trends with shopping malls around the world, and is confident the offer presented will be world class.

The affable former manager of The Warehouse in Invers says he’s extremely proud of the builders and other contractors on site who are working at break neck pace.

We were more than impressed with the design of the car park. The designers have made every effort to make it spacious so shoppers are not hemmed in with little room to open car doors with out banging the next car.

Another point on parking, look out for the electronic indicators which will signify where and how many spare parks are available.

A parking app will also be available to assist with all this.

When asked to sell Invercargill Central to Southlanders Kelvin Mooney had no trouble extolling its virtues saying that when complete it will have a varied array of retailers selling their wares, a fantastic food court, up to five restaurants on the second floor, access to the Cinema from the food court, and no trouble finding a car park with about 670 spaces when complete.

Kelvin Mooney says Invercargill Central will really bring help bring the city alive again, and encourage a lot of people back to the city centre which is long overdue.

He says Invercargill Central is proud to be a part of what what is going on with development of the city centre as a whole, along with other projects like The Langlands Hotel, the HWR Tower and the planned development of the Menzies Building all in the same space.

As we said at the start, Invercargill Central is barreling along. Keep an eye on it as things are changing all the time.

We’ll report back when we have an opening day coffee on what is the biggest thing to happen in Invers since who knows when.
