Thanking a teacher this October could put a pencil case in a child's hands.
Warehouse Stationery and the Salvation Army have launched their Thank a Teacher appeal, running from October 5 to November 1. The deal is simple: create a free personalised card online for a teacher who made a difference, and Warehouse Stationery donates $2 to the Salvation Army — up to $50,000 in total — to fund school essentials for children experiencing hardship.
No purchase required. Just a name, a memory, maybe a sentence or two about the teacher who noticed you when it mattered.
Most people have one. The teacher who didn't let you drift to the back of the room. The one who told you that you were good at something before you believed it yourself. The appeal is built on exactly that — the idea that those moments are worth acknowledging, and that acknowledging them can do something useful at the same time.
The $50,000 cap means the campaign has a ceiling, but it also means every card genuinely counts toward something finite and real. School essentials — stationery, supplies, the basics that kids in hardship often turn up without — funded by collective gratitude. There are worse uses of five minutes.
Cards can be created at www.warehousestationery.co.nz throughout October.
The teacher who made sure you didn't feel left behind probably never expected a thank-you. Turns out one might be worth $2 to a kid who needs a pen.
