Thompson Property Group is confident that plans are progressing with tenants inside the old Farmers Building, that has been vacant since May last year.

Paper Plus Invercargill has been in discussions with the Thompson Property Group, but will continue to trade in its existing location at H&J Smith until the New Year.

Gaire Thompson said things were starting to come to fruition inside the old Farmers building, but it was taking time because of potential clients needing different floor layouts, and then architect plans having to be amended to accommodate those.

Access to the top floor was another consideration, with a lift being included in the plans for the front of building facing Dee Street as well.

Initially the company were looking at converting the building into a mini mall, but then the potential tenants all wanted bigger spaces.

“We have so many tenants and we have to work in with what they want.”

Meanwhile, the old SIT arcade that the company purchased last year is progressing well, with only two sites left, and the potential now to incorporate the ground floor level of 33 Don Street into the mall as well.

The company plans to open up a side access into the arcade to make it more available to the public, and they are still looking for a cafe to lease a space, after Starbucks pulled out – and a proposal for a wine bar didn’t get approval from neighbouring tenants.
